Vivian Baker Rodden, age 95, of Gastonia, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 27, 1929, in Lee County, SC, the daughter of the late Howell Barney Baker and Viola Holloman Baker.

Vivian was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Belmont, NC, since 1949. Over the course of more than 30 years, she joyfully served in various roles within the church, including nurturing children in the nursery, teaching Sunday School, and preparing meals for Wednesday night suppers. Known for her sewing talents, Vivian lovingly crafted clothing for her children and grandchildren, including two wedding dresses. She also volunteered her time and skills at Holy Angels, demonstrating her compassionate caregiving nature. Vivian was blessed with the ability to have a long career and stay active through work she enjoyed at Mary Jo's where she retired after 10 years at the age of 85. A woman of remarkable determination, Vivian tackled new challenges, even learning skills like masonry through research and classes. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them.

Vivian is survived by her daughters, Vickie Filchuk and Cynthia Gardner; her brother, Ray H. Baker; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Eugene Rodden; her son, Wayne Harold Rodden, Sr.; her brothers, Betha Baker and Gordon Baker; and her sisters, Eunice Mason and Ora Dell Belk.

The family will welcome friends at 12:30 PM on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in the Ann Dulan Room at First Baptist Church of Belmont, NC. A Celebration of Life service will follow in the sanctuary at 1:30 PM with Pastor Andrew Whisenant officiating. Interment will be held at Gaston Memorial Park.
