Fermanian, Samuel (Sam) of Peabody, passed away at home with his devoted wife, Elaine (Cataldo) Fermanian, on Friday, June 21, 2024. Devoted father of Lauri Fermanian, Marc Fermanian and Marc’s wife, Melissa. Dear brother of the late Jack Fermanian, and Louise Boyajian. Mr. Fermanian is survived by his granddaughter, nieces and nephews.
Sam had recently celebrated his 83rd Birthday. Sam and Elaine, married for 56 years, were proud residents of Peabody, Massachusetts. Sam instilled in his children the importance of hard work, education, pursuit of career, and strong family ties.
Mr. Fermanian was a general contractor retiring with both his Boston Builders License and Massachusetts Builders License. His craftmanship, work ethic, and care of family were his highest accolades. Finally, his wit. Sam had an uncanny ability to provide comic relief with one-liners in all heightened discussions.
During his retirement, he spent time within the Community assisting with, what he called, “odd jobs.” Helping family, friends and neighbors with remodeling projects at their homes. He worked part-time for the Comak Brothers Landscaping Co. which he thoroughly enjoyed. In the 1970’s he traveled during his career throughout the United States as well as the Philippines. While working, he brought his family to Puerto Rico promoting togetherness, and exposing his children to cultural experiences outside of New England.
As part of his lifestyle, Sam appreciated a good card game, shooting pool, visiting casinos, checking on the dogs at Wonderland, and scratch tickets. Sam attributed his recreational “habits” as mere amusement. Patrons of Wonderland who’ve heard the cry, “Here comes the bunny and there goes your money!” that was Sam.
Sam enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains, playing Scrabble and Backgammon with great fervor (combatively), and he loved his Harry Belafonte music. Sam’s favorite pastime was building model sailing ships which were proudly and meticulously displayed in his “man cave.” Most importantly, he cherished his Elaine.
Family and friends will honor Sam's life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, North Shore Chapel, 10 Chestnut St., Peabody (across from city hall), on Friday, July 5th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a prayer service at 1:00 PM in our serenity chapel. Services will conclude with Sam being laid to rest at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody, MA with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam's remembrance may be made to St. Adelaide's Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody, MA 01960.
