Bert Tochor passed away peacefully on June 24, 2024, at 87 in the care home at Esterhazy. Born on the family farm on September 1, 1936, to Peter and Barbara (Helmeczi) Tochor, Bert spent his entire life in the area dedicated to his family, work, and community.
On July 4, 1960, Bert met his wife, Marie, at a dance in Churchbridge. One year later, they were married at St. Joseph's Church in Langenburg, spending almost 63 years together in enduring love and partnership. The couple initially lived in Esterhazy until 1963, when they purchased a farm. They farmed there until Bert fell ill in October of last year. Together, Bert and Marie raised four children: Brenda, Bob, Eugene, and Carla. Bert worked on various construction projects throughout the area, including the construction of the Rocanville and Esterhazy mines, schools, rink, and hospital. He also always lent a hand to friends and family when needed. From an early age, his true passion was the farm from growing crops to raising livestock. He was also an avid gardener with a special fondness for lilies. He had a strong attachment to the community and was involved in many committees. Bert was a member of the parish council for a number of years and one of the founding members of the Kaposvar heritage site. He also was on the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool board in Esterhazy for many years and played an active role in the Coma Park community pasture up until recently.
Bert was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Barbara, and his brothers, Jim, Laddie, and Victor. He also mourned the loss of his in-laws Haig and Catherine Pollock, his brother-in-law George Petracek, his nephew Wes Petracek, and his beloved daughter Brenda.
Bert's life was a testament to hard work and love for his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife Marie; his sons Bob and Eugene, daughter Carla (Hugh) Davis; son-in-law Richard Findlay; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws Pat Petracek and Gloria (Eddie) Wirth; brother-in-law John (Elaine) Pollock, numerous relatives, and all who knew him.
