Carol A. Jacobs Obituary

Carol Ann Neiburg Jacobs was born to Gerald D. and Shirley Mae (Abendroth) Neiburg on March 30, 1955, in the West Point Hospital. She died on June 21, 2024, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.

Carol attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in West Point, Nebraska, through the fourth grade. The family moved to Oakland when her father became disabled due to diabetes. Carol attended and graduated from Oakland-Craig High School in 1973.

Carol met the love of her life, Dan Jacobs, at a Purple Onion dance in the summer of 1969. They were high school sweethearts and were married on August 4, 1973. Their first home was in Norfolk, Nebraska, while Dan attended Northeast Technical and Community College. Carol worked as a cashier at Gibson’s Department Store in Norfolk. After Dan graduated, they moved to Fremont briefly before returning to Oakland.

On November 17, 1976, they had their first child, a daughter, Carie Ann. Their second child, a son, Travis Gerald, was born on May 20, 1979. Both children, Carie (Jason) Jones and Travis (Sarah) Jacobs, reside in Lincoln, Nebraska, with their families.

Carol and Dan joined the Oakland Fire and Rescue in 1982. Carol had a fond memory of helping deliver a baby in the back of the ambulance heading for Omaha. Carol served 20 years on the Oakland Rescue Squad.

Carol was a member of the Covenant Church in Oakland and later a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lyons.

Carol worked for Schinck Repair near Craig for 10 years. She also worked at Oakland Memorial Hospital and Clinic for 17 years and Northeast Psychological Services for 13 years before retiring on December 31, 2023.

Carol loved her family and extended family with all her heart. She loved attending family gatherings and making memories. She was very close with her siblings and their children and grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved sharing all their adventures and accomplishments. Her love for her soulmate, Dan, was heartfelt. They were married for 50 years on August 4, 2023.

Carol loved good times and having shared fun with friends and family. She was somewhat of a prankster and enjoyed keeping everyone on their toes. Many have stories of the fun she had playing a good prank. She loved dressing up at Halloween and finding just the right costume to stump others with her identity.

Carol loved to go fishing. She loved scary movies and crime detective shows, as well as some of the old sitcoms of the past. She liked reading a good mystery. She liked to play shuffleboard and was in a league for several years. She also loved attending concerts with her sisters. Her brother-in law, Alan, was usually honored to drive them, so he and Dan also got to attend.

Carol was a person who could identify with anyone she met. She was personable and friendly to everyone she met.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Neiburg, her stepfather, Lee Schinck and her mother-in-law, Dove Jacobs.

Carol is survived by her husband, Dan Jacobs of Oakland; daughter, Carie (Jason) Jones of Lincoln; son, Travis (Sarah) Jacobs of Lincoln; mother, Shirley Schinck of Oakland; sisters, Karen Nelson and Tammy (Alan) Schinck, both of Oakland; brother, Terry Neiburg of Oakland; brother, Mark (Brenda) Neiburg of Blair; father-in-law, Wesley Jacobs of Oakland; brother-in-law, Roger (Josephine) Jacobs of Columbia, SC; brother-in-law, Tom (Lori) Jacobs of West Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Jodi (Dale) Simmons of Elgin, IL.
