James Marvin Poynter Obituary

James Marvin Poynter, 78, of Lancaster, passed away at his home Saturday, March 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born June 8, 1945 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late John Franklin Poynter & Margaret Church Beach. James was a retired employee of the Garrard County Road Department and also enjoyed multiple trades from plumbing , farming, restoring cars, and attended Preachersville Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Johnson, Hazel Poynter, & Gladys Poynter. His survivors include his wife, Sue Baker Poynter, his children, Wendell (Karen ) Osborne of Danville, Bonnie (Mickey Rhodus) Hasty of Lancaster, LaShonda (Jason) Graves of Fairfield, Ohio & April Michelle Poynter of Lancaster. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Lori-Jo Hasty, Bobby Hasty, Tessa Barnes, Jarrod Poynter, Shelby Byrd, Linsey Harris, and Chase Dawson, as well as 19 great grandchildren. James’ wishes for cremation rites will be held and a public graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Lancaster Cemetery by Rev. Lanny Hazelwood.
