Melvin E. Clark

Melvin Clark, 83, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Monday, August 6, 2018, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Mel will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 11, at Grand Rapids International Fellowship Church (3765 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood MI 49508) with his son-in-law, Branson Roberts officiating. Mel was born December 17, 1934, in Jackson, Michigan, son of the late Samuel and Freda (Gephart) Clark. He graduated from Jackson High School and worked as an engineer for W.J.I.M. in Lansing. He retired from Ingham County as a Transportation Officer, working with veterans on their medical applications. He worked as a television repairman in 1960’s and 1970’s and later owned a real estate company in the 1980’s. After moving to Mt. Pleasant, Mel worked part-time for Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home and as a driver for Graff Chevrolet. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and, in his youth, enjoyed playing baseball himself. Mel loved music and was known to have a great voice. Some of his favorite pastimes in recent years were fishing, hunting, horse racing, and going to the casino. Mel is survived by his companion, JoAnn Neubecker of Mt. Pleasant; seven children, Sandy (Daniel) Haney of Emory, TX, Casey (Randy) Thompson of Jackson, Melva (Rick) Wolcott of Jackson, Diana (Randy) Snyder of Alto, Laurie VanderMeulen of Grand Rapids, Carmen (Branson) Roberts of Berryton, KS, and Stephen (Lorie) Saunders of Otsego; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Irish and Donna Goodrich, both of Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law, Louise Clark of Tenessee; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Orville Clark.
