Catherine Elizabeth Cooper passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the early morning hours of June 20, 2024. Catherine was born in Killarney, MB on December 24, 1947 to parents Arthur (Bud) and Mary Hall . She was the eldest of 6 children. Catherine had polio as a child but she did not let it stop her. She took part in figure skating, sewing classes, and she sang in the junior and senior choir. She won a "Guess How Many Pennies" radio contest in her teenage years.
In the early part of 1964, she met Raymond Cooper. The two quickly hit it off and married on August 15, 1964. Catherine moved to Belmont, MB to be with Raymond. They welcomed their first son John in January of 1965. In the following years, they welcomed 5 other children - Robert, Dennis, Donald, Wayne, and their daughter Tammy completed their family in 1974. The family lived in Killarney, Moosomin, Weyburn, Langenburg/Spy Hill areas and finally settled on Gerald, SK in 1990 to be closer to Raymond's work. Catherine worked in various restaurants/bars and at Walmart before her retirement but mostly spent her time taking care of her family. She was well known to her grandchildren and the neighborhood children for her "garbage soup." She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and the neighborhood kids, even if they took their bikes past the stop sign. Catherine was known as "Grandma Cooper" to many people and she took on the role accordingly. She volunteered with the Spy Hill museum and Gerald recreation board.
Catherine's hobbies included baking/cooking for her family, hosting get togethers, going to music in the community, reading, gardening, board/card games, and coloring. She loved Elvis Presley, dancing, and pumpkin pie. Catherine was known for being stubborn, honest, and strong willed - if you were ever in a kitchen with her, you'll understand why.
In 2019, Catherine's health began to decline. This ultimately resulted in a move to Esterhazy in November 2023.
Catherine is predeceased by her parents, Arthur(Bud) and Mary Hall, youngest brother Allan, eldest son John, granddaughters Kimberly and Chelsey; sister-in-law Joyce Hall, and mother-in-law Mae Cooper.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years Raymond Cooper of Esterhazy, SK; sons Robert (Susie) of Spy
Hill, SK, Dennis (Bernadette) of Yorkton, SK, Donald and Wayne, MB; daughter Tammy (Willy) of Ebenezer, SK; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; brothers Stuard (Mo) of Killarney, MB, David (Diane) of Brandon, MB, and George of Carievale, SK; sisters June of Brandon, MB, Isabelle (Darwin) Shoemaker of Lethbridge, AB; brothers-in-law George (Margaret) of Winnipeg, MB, Larry (Darlin) of Vancouver Island, BC; sister-in-law Norma (Gordy) of Brandon, MB; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
