Robert Lee Stevenson Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Stevenson.  He passed away in the early morning of May 15th at the Esterhazy Special Centennial Care Home.

Robert was born on March 10, 1935; a son to Alexander (Sandy) Stevenson and Rosalie (nee Badke) in the district of Hansens Corners, Alberta.  He attended Hansens Corners school to grade nine, then Stony Plain High School.  He worked at various jobs around home on farms and the municipality; then into B.C. and in Jasper, Alberta working on the Trans-Canada Pipelines.  He found his interest in the electrical field and apprenticed at Elk Point, Alberta and Port Radium, N.W.T.  During his time at Port Radium, he took a leave to go prospecting in the Nahani Valley, on the border of the Yukon and N.W.T.  He later worked as an electrician in Yellowknife, N.W.T., Thompson, and Lynn Lake, Manitoba. This path led him to work at I.M.C. (Mosaic) in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan.  He continued to work at the mine until his retirement in September 1998.

Robert met his wife, Beatrice (nee Roggeveen), in Port Radium, N.W.T. and they were married in 1960 in Edmonton,, Alberta.  They raised their two daughters, Sandra and Wendy.  As a family they travelled many times to their homesteads in Alberta for family visits.

Robert and Beatrice had a love of horses.  So, when they moved to this area, they helped to found the Twin Valley Riding Club; which is still active to this day.  They spent a lot of time raising and showing horses.  They enjoyed many trail rides with great friends throughout the years.  Robert also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He had many stories from his goose hunting days with good friends and a few fishing stories too.  Robert also found a passion for making willow furniture in his retirement years.  He made many items of furniture and really enjoyed traveling to trade shows and flea markets to sell his creations.  Robert also loved reading history books and reading poetry.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Sandy and Rosalie, a sister, Mavis and a brother, Ron.  He will be sadly missed by his wife, Beatrice; daughters Sandra and her son, Jesse; and Wendy (Tom) and their children, Brett (Haylea), Samantha (Shaun), Aaron (Erika); and great grandchildren, Liv and Piper; his sisters, Jean Stevenson; and Kathleen (Allan) Forbes; and his brother Mark Stevenson; as well as many friends and family members.
