Mildred (Millie) Pittner
April 28, 1931 - May 26, 2024
"The sun has set on an amazing life."
Mildred Isabel Pittner (nee Knourek) passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at Bow View Manor in Calgary, Alberta on May 26, 2024. Millie was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Effie Knourek (Hudacek) born at home on the farm in the Stockholm district of Saskatchewan.
Millie was predeceased by her husband Gordon Pittner, her parents Joseph and Effie Knourek and all of her siblings Agnes, Victor and Betty as well as several cousins, many dear friends and her life partner Robert Jensen.
Millie attended Teacher's College in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, started teaching at 17 years of age and went on to teach for 36 years. She taught in various places throughout Saskatchewan including one-room school houses, several years and locations with the Department of Indian Affairs, and retired from St. Mary's School in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. It was then Millie really flew, literally and figuratively. From Yorkton, Millie moved to Yellowknife, NWT where she assisted Bob with his flying school, charter aviation business and funeral home. It was there she met and befriended Joyce Dunphy, and the two of them took off! Mom toured Bethlehem, a life-long dream, Egypt and even squeezed in an African safari! She also travelled coast to coast across North America.
After 18 years in Yellowknife and Bob's passing, Millie moved to Airdrie, Alberta to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Millie was fortunate to make very good friends throughout her life who kept in touch over the years and many new friends in Airdrie, all of whom she loved dearly and who loved her in return. She kept herself busy gardening and cooking, going to bingo or the casino and backyard parties. Millie was known for being very accepting of people she met, and her door was always open to welcome anyone who needed an ear, just some love or some of her famous butter tarts! She was a very independent, strong, courageous, faithful and kind woman who will be very sorely missed.
She leaves to mourn her children: Miles (Marian), Greg (Daphne), Charlene (Rick) and Chris (Sheila); her grandchildren: Cameron, Trenton (Melanie), Caitlin (Trevor), Tara (Shaun), Peter, Alex, Ben, Katie, Dillon, Brody; and her great-grandchildren: Rowyn, Rhett, Evan, James; her sisters-in-law Bertha Junek and Sophie Knourek.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Airdrie, Alberta on Jun 13, 2024 at 1:30 PM.
Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan on June 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM..

"She loved life and it loved her right back. How lucky we are to have had a mom that makes saying goodbye so hard for someone who gave us so much to remember. No one spread more love in one lifetime.”
