Stanley Smith Obituary

Stanley Loyal Smith, 93, of Grangeville, Idaho, left this world to be with his savior, surrounded
by his loving family, on June 9th, 2024 after a brief illness.

Stan, as he was known, was born on May 31st, 1931 in Sumner, Iowa. He leaves behind his
wife of 65 years, Amalia, and three children, Rebecca (Jeff) Goldman, Mark (Yumi) Smith and
Linda (David) Forest. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren Angela Smith, Wesley Goldman,
Sylvia Williams, Joshua Bosman, Lauren Goldman, Stephen Goldman, Jason Smith, Daniel
Forest, Gabriella Bosman, Brandon Forest and Molly Forest. He was preceded in death by his
sister Sally Till and his beloved daughter Ruth (Olaf) Bosman.

Stanley’s family moved to El Paso, Texas when he was a little boy. There he had many
adventures and formed lifelong friendships. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High
School he went on to serve his country in the Air Force, from 1951-1955. After his military
service, he attended University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and Wheaton College where he
earned a degree in Theology in 1958.

While attending college he went on several mission trips to Mexico, where he met his future
wife, the beautiful Amalia Rodriguez, while working with her father in Juarez. They were
married on September 1st, 1958 in Monterrey, Mexico.

After graduating with his degree, he employed the training he received in the military, working in
the field of electronics. He later decided that he was more interested and suited to working with
people as an educator. After gaining his teaching certificate, he began his new career at
Canutillo High school, in El Paso, Texas (1965-1971) teaching Math, Spanish and Civics. He
moved his family to Salinas, California in 1971. There he continued his teaching at Washington
Junior High School, Alisal High School and Salinas High School. His time as a teacher was
distinguished by the heart he had for students and to help them overcome obstacles through
innovative approaches to learning. In particular, working with the children of migrant workers
enrolled in ESL(English as a Second Language) classes. Throughout his teaching career
Stanley continued to work in the mission field with his wife, Amalia.

After retiring early from Public Education in 1989, he devoted the rest of his life to full-time
ministry working in the US, Mexico and Romania. In Mexico, he served for 12 years as a
director and teacher at a Bible Training Institute that trained church leaders. In 2017, Stan and
Amalia moved from California to Idaho to be closer to family.

Stanley had a passion for helping people and touched the lives of many, too numerous to count.
He loved and served his Lord, and would have invited you to as well.
