Mary A. (White) Mumper of McVeytown passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. She was
born on December 7, 1930 to the late Mason and Edna (Kane) White. She has anxiously been waiting
to be reunited with her husband, Milton O Mumper, Jr “Bunk” since his death on June 14, 1998.
Mary will be missed dearly by her children and their spouses Linda Dickson, Mike (Gayle) Mumper, Dan
(Carolyn) Mumper, John (Dotti) Mumper and Nancy (Joe) Kutchner, 13 grandchildren, 26 great
grandchildren, and 13 great great grandchildren, sister Susan (Charles) Heckman, sister in law Helen
White and many nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart, and special friends, Jackie Barth, Kay
Dunmire and Nancy Mumper.
She was preceded in death by brothers, William White and David White and sister Kay Chesney as well
as sons in law, Cliff Miller, Rick Dickson, grandson Shawn Miller and great granddaughters Taylor Dickson
and Tess Macauley.
Mary graduated from McVeytown-Oliver High School in 1949 and Lewistown School of Nursing in 1952.
She and Bunk were married on October 25, 1952 and dedicated their lives to raising their children to
appreciate time spent with family. As a family they enjoyed many vacations together, especially their
annual trip to Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Many memories were made on their boat at Raystown Lake
and the waterways surrounding Emerald Isle. For many years they traveled to Daytona Beach for the
first race of the season and enjoyed the break from Pennsylvania winters in February. She documented
each trip in a datebook and filed away to be read again and again over the years in case you wanted to
know the price of gas in July 1982, or see who was along for the trip.
She was a registered nurse at Lewistown Hospital, retiring in 1993. After retiring, she enjoyed lunch
with other nursing school alumni each month, sharing memories and discussing how nursing has
changed since they graduated. She had the heart of a true caregiver and was often found helping
friends, family, and total strangers in their time of need. If you ever crossed paths with Mary, chances
are you received a card in the mail . . . . birthday, sympathy, get well, and thinking of you cards were
mailed out several times a week.
Mary was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren and the Shining Stars Sunday School class.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Spring Run Church of the Brethren, 6712 Ferguson Valley Rd., McVeytown, with Pastors Craig and Kate Gandy officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Spring Run Cemetery and there will be no viewing at the church.
