Robert Francis Cashen Obituary

Robert F. Cashen, age 85, of Hubbardston, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, in University of Michigan Health Sparrow, Carson City.


He was born on July 7, 1938, in Beal City to Aloysius and Dorothy (Tilmann) Cashen. Robert was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 182, the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He loved hunting, fishing, and building bird feeders for cancer benefits. Robert was an excellent carpenter and loved working with his hands; he even built 5 homes. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family.


Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Katherine Cashen; children: Michelle (Tom Gallagher) Cashen, Michael (Mary) Cashen, Kevin (Karen) Cashen, and Scott (Lisa) Schmitt; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; brothers: William (Carol) Cashen and James (Michelle) Cashen; sister Shirley Faber; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Mark Schmitt Jr.; daughter Julie Schmitt-Thoma; brother Patrick (Mary) Cashen; sister Susanne (Gerald) Schafer; and brother-in-law Frank Faber.


A visitation will be held Friday, June 21, 2024, from 10am until the time of funeral Mass at 12pm, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Hubbardston, Burial will take place at St. John the Baptist Cemetery following Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sons of the American Legion Post 182 (165 W. Lincoln St., Hubbardston, MI 48845).
