Frank J. White Jr. (January 12, 1939 – May 23, 2024)

Frank J. White Jr., a longtime resident of both Connecticut and Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024 with help from the kind and caring Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Frank is survived by: his first wife Flora White; his three daughters Kristin White, Alison White, and Hilary Sierpinski; and his two grandsons Paul Monnes and Cole Sierpinski. In his life,

 Frank moved through various beautiful college towns. He was raised in the picturesque town of South Hadley Massachusetts (home to the storied Mount Holyoke College). He started his adult life in New York City on the Columbia University campus, getting his degree there, and then began his professional life in Woodbridge Connecticut, a suburb of New Haven (with Yale as a huge part of that city’s landscape, healthcare and culture). Frank loved all of these places, their history, and the colleges and universities that were such a part of them. And he loved the Connecticut shoreline town of Branford that he eventually moved to in retirement. But even with the great love he had for all of these places that he was so connected to in his life, his favorite of all was the last place he called home: the island of Nantucket. He lived in Nantucket for the last 18 years of his life with his second wife, Carolyn Wells, who passed in 2022. They both enjoyed traveling the world but always loved best to come home to their cherished Nantucket, with its amazing natural beauty, its wonderful traditions and most of all, its caring and special people who make Nantucket the unique place it is. 

 Frank was also a great lover of classical music and always had his favorite public classical radio station playing. If you would like to honor Frank in some way, please give to your own local public classical station on his behalf. Or the next time you are in a coffee shop, buy the person in line next to you their coffee or breakfast in his name. He would be very pleased with that too.
