Johnnie L. White (John L) was born on October 18, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas. John was the fourth child born to Robert Julius White and Rosie Lee (King) White. He transitioned to eternal life with Christ on May 30, 2024. John L. was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Petersburg, TX under the leadership of Rev. O.W. Gentry from childhood until he graduated high school. He participated in Sunday School and was a member of the church choir and Royal Ambassadors. John L. attended Petersburg High School where he was All-District in football and basketball, graduating in 1972. Johnnie began working for his boss and friend, Jim McLaughlin, in High School as a farm hand alongside his dad Robert. He would laugh and say “Jim wanted to keep me on, so he paid me more than my dad and got me a luxury, air-conditioned tractor!” After attending South Plains College in Levelland, TX he graduated in May 1974. Johnnie married the love of his life, Wanda Kaye Morgan, on May 25, 1974. To this union three children were born Amber (1978); Ashlie (1981) and John(1983). The couple moved to Canyon, TX so that Johnnie could further his education at West Texas State University. The two moved to Amarillo to attend Amarillo College and received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Nursing in May, 1978. Johnnie began his career in Amarillo at High Plains Baptist Hospital (Baptist St. Anthony’s) in the Surgical Department until his retirement in 2008. The two joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in 1976 under the leadership of Rev. Vernon Spencer, Rev. V. P. Perry and Rev. Morris Mitchell. There he served in various capacities as Children’s Choir Director, a member of the Brotherhood and Gospel Choir, Director of Vacation Bible School, and a teacher for Sunday School and Baptist Training Union. On July 26, 1985, Johnnie was ordained as a Deacon under Rev. Vernon Spencer. John L. Wanda and Rosie moved to Prosper, TX. in 2008 to be closer to his in-laws in their declining years. There he worked with his sister-in-law at Morgan Builders Services until he resigned to assist in the care of his mother, Rosie. Under the leadership of his current Pastor, Charles S. Wattely of the Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church in McKinney, TX; he continued his work for the Lord as a Disciple and Deacon until his health failed and ultimate demise. Johnnie never met a stranger! He referred to people as his friends. He had a heart of gold, and some mistook his kindness of weakness. He showed humility, as he understood his place in the larger order of things. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert and Rosie White, sister Vera Gentry, brothers Albert and Robert White; sister-in-law Carol White, his in-laws Seliven and Dorothy Morgan and granddaughter Ariela Khi Willis. Johnnie will truly be missed by his family and friends. He leaves his wife Wanda, son John Morgan, daughters Amber, Ashlie (Adrian), Grandchildren: Mykah Jaeden White, Khaleel Malik Burks, Adonia Khiola Willis, Arya Khialani Willis, sisters Ruby Jewel Jackson and Wilma Jean Colomb, and a host of relatives and friends.
