John Joseph Sullivan III, known affectionately as Jack to his friends and family, passed away on June 10th, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on January 8th, 1946, in Beverly, Massachusetts, and living in Danvers for the most of his life, Jack was the embodiment of kindness, generosity, and humor. He left this world, after a brave battle with Alzheimer's disease, suffering from acute cardiopulmonary failure.
Jack was the beloved husband of Donna Sullivan, and a loving father to his son, Christopher Sullivan, and his daughter, Lauren Sullivan. His family circle was further brightened by the presence of his daughter-in-law, Amy Sullivan, and his cherished grandchildren, Teaghan and Callum. Jack took great joy in his role as a grandfather, taking immense pride in their adventures and accomplishments. Jack is also survived by his two sisters, Marcia Newman and Maureen Howley, along with their husbands, and his many nieces and nephews. Together, they created a family life rich with love, laughter, and enduring memories.
After graduating from Tufts University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jack embarked on a distinguished career at GE in their Power Generation division. He dedicated just shy of five decades of his life to GE, where he excelled as an engineer and lead sales manager. His colleagues respected him for his intelligence and work ethic for so many years.
Away from work, Jack was a passionate fan of Boston sports, with a particular affinity for the Red Sox. A die-hard Sox fan, he loved being at Fenway Park with family, friends, or customers. If he wasn’t at Fenway, then the game was on the TV or in his ear as listened on a Walkman working in the yard on his gardens, where he found peace and satisfaction in nurturing his plants and flowers to vibrant life.
Those who knew Jack would describe him as a kind soul, generous to a fault, and intelligent beyond measure. His ability to light up a room with his smile and engage in meaningful conversation left an enduring impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He made lasting impacts on so many as an active volunteer throughout his life, as a coach for his children in soccer, basketball, or softball, as a Cub Scout leader, President of the St. John’s Prep Fathers Club, consistent blood donor with the American Red Cross, and much more.
As we say farewell to Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and joy. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Jack's legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those he leaves behind, and his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
