Nora Jean Munroe Obituary

Nora Jean Munroe, beloved daughter, sister, mother and friend, passed away unexpectedly in Winnipeg on June 2, 2024.

Nora was predeceased by her parents Mary and Arthur Munroe, her sister Linda Munroe and her cousin Marilyn Rose Munroe, who was raised as her sister. She is survived by her two cherished daughters MaryRose Redsky-Munroe and ReTalia Redsky-Munroe, her brother Arthur Munroe and her sister Debbie Thunder. She is also survived by extended family in Sachigo Lake First Nation, Shoal Lake 40 First Nation, Thunder Bay, Ontario and in Winnipeg.

Nora was raised in Sachigo Lake First Nation in northwestern Ontario and she was proud of her Oji-Cree heritage and upbringing. She came to Winnipeg as a teen with her mother and spent most of her adult life in Winnipeg. Nora loved music, home cooking and being with friends and family, but most of all, Nora loved her daughters MaryRose and ReTalia. Her happiest times were spent with them and seeing them happy and flourishing.

Although Nora experienced personal hardships, she lived her life with courage and dignity. Nora became an advocate for murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls after Marilyn was murdered in Winnipeg in 2016. Nora made many friends in the inner city of Winnipeg, where she lived. She was often a peacemaker and tried to make a difference for others when she could.

Nora was loved and will be missed.
