John E. Messinger Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the Messinger Family shares the passing of our beloved father, John E. Messinger, age 79, of McSherrystown, who passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024 at UPMC Memorial in York surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of the late Barbara A. (Harman) Messinger who passed away on November 3, 2013; together they shared 50 years of marriage.

John was born in Hanover, PA on November 15, 1944 and was the son of the late Claude and Catherine (Wolfe) Messinger. He graduated from Delone Catholic High School Class of 1962 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked for Schuhart/Shipley Oil for 44 years as a propane service manager. John was also a member of the McSherrystown Home Association where you could find him playing cards every Wednesday and Friday.

After retirement, John enjoyed meeting his friends Wayne and Fred for breakfast every Monday. He loved driving his old ’38 Ford truck and putting the pedal to the metal in Big Red. John also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter Myla Monroe.

John’s memory will forever be held in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his son Todd Messinger and wife Kelly; his daughter Kerry Neiderer and husband Dave; grandchildren Cody Neiderer and wife Michaela, Christopher Messinger, Colin Messinger and girlfriend Gabby Malkus, and Chase Neiderer; and his great-grandchildren Norman Patton and Myla Monroe Neiderer. He is also survived by his loving companion of 10 years, Jan Bankert; his sister Roxie Sprenkle; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his infant son James Ray Messinger; and his brother Frank Crone.

A Funeral Service in celebration of John’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 8:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344 with Rev.
