Steven Gregory Brettell Obituary

.

After serving his country in the military, and then travelling North America behind the wheel of his Peterbilt, Steven Brettell, 63, of Winnipeg, MB passed away on June 2, 2024.

He was born in Okehampton, England on September 19, 1960 to parents Brian and Nancy Brettell. After living a fulfilling childhood along side his brothers Barry and Chris Brettell Steven made the decision to join the military at a young age. Following many years in military service, he decided to drive transport truck across Germany. He later moved to Canada, driving for TransX and travelling across North America. Steve then worked as a scale operator in Winnipeg, MB for a few years before making his final big move in 2014 when he returned full time to Jade Transport Ltd., first as an owner operator and then as a driver.

He loved everything about driving trucks, from the people he would meet, to the places he would see. If you ask his fellow driver’s they’d say that Steve knew all the best places to eat.

Steve is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Brettell and Saskia Brettell, and his “hunny-bun” Emily Pastulovic who brought him peace in the final years of his life. He also left behind his partner in crime and daily companion, Stanley.

Steve and Dennis Durand met while both driving at Jade and Dennis remained a strong support and shoulder to lean on for Steve and his partner, Emily, during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

In 2023 Steve Brettell was baptised at the Church of the Rock where he was able to find peace in his illness and come to terms with the holy fathers’ plan for him.

Steve will always be remembered for his love for food, adventure, his hilarious demeanor and his ability to make everyone laugh.

A service will be held at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home at 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, MB on Thursday June 13, 2024 at 11:00am CST. For those wishing to attend but unable to make it, you can watch by copying this Zoom link into your browser:
