Karen Elizabeth Barr Obituary

Karen Elizabeth (York) Barr, 78, of Moosup, passed away at home on June 10, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Dennis Barr. Born in New Rochelle, NY, she was the daughter of the late John York and Evelyn (Landgrebe) York.

Karen met Dennis shortly after moving to Connecticut from New York. She fell in love with the rural life he showed her, and married him August 6, 1966. It didn’t take long for them to create the family that she treasured, planting deep roots for many generations to come. Karen dedicated her life to her children and spent most of her years caring for them, as well as her brother Michael.

As the last ones grew, she worked at Apparel Manufacturing, doing what she loved: sewing. During her retirement years, she and her husband once again took care of children¬—their grandchildren! Karen was naturally a nurturing woman. She also had a talent for crafting. She always kept her hands busy creating something, from sewing, to making scrapbooks, to painting and so much more. Each one of her creations was always created around her children and grandchildren. Her ideas were endless, and she passed on these qualities to many. Karen spent every evening with her husband in their Barr’s Bar, often welcoming friends over for a visit. Granny & PopPop opened their home to many people throughout their years together. Offering their home to anyone, they always had an open door for a place to stay or even just a hot meal to eat.

In addition to her husband, Karen is survived by her children, a son Patrick Barr; 6 daughters and sons in law, Keri and Kevin Perreault, Donna and Dan Breton, Margaret and Doug Gagnon, Karen and Aaron Vincent, Dianne and Jamie Talbot, Dennyse and Travis Heon; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren, a sister Mary and Thomas Gardiner; brothers, James, William, and Peter York along with many nieces and nephews.

Karen was predeceased by her son, John W. “Jack” Barr; and grandson, Andrew William Vincent, sister Dianne York, brothers; John, Michael, and Joseph York.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 10:00 am, in All Hallows Church, Prospect St., Moosup, CT. Burial will be private. Donations in Karen’s name may be made to the Andrew Vincent Foundation, C/O Karen Vincent 490 Kate Downing Rd. Plainfield CT 06374. For memorial guestbook visit www.DoughertyBrosFuneralHome.com.
