John Dillard Gregory Obituary

Pursued by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks for most of his life, John Gregory got a call from the First Game Warden on February 17th, 2024. He was at home, in Lewistown, where he had hoped to receive that call. He was 82.

Our Pop-Pop leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 plus years, Sharon (raised in Columbus); his two daughters, Christina (husband, Luke) and Karla; his grandkids, Keaton (wife, Areya), Korissa (fiancé, Logan) and Gregory; his added grandkids, Victoria and Caitlin; and three little great-grandsons, Blake, Hendrix, and Oakley. He was so thrilled to play with and share stories about the two newest members of his family and anticipated the arrival of the third.

He loved his "girls" and if you were one of them, you know just how special you were to him.

He grew up in Forest Grove/Grass Range, spent a few years in Billings, served in the Army National Guard, ranched in Ryegate for 10 years, and worked for the Montana Department of Transportation; retiring in Lewistown from the latter in 1999. He spent many early mornings and late nights making sure snow-packed roads in central MT were open; he often said that was the best part of his job. His hunting and fishing stories were un-spun tales and he loved recounting them, especially those with his partner-in-crime, Chug Moseman. We will miss hearing about his many adventures.

At John’s request no funeral services will take place; but instead we will celebrate him with a small gathering this summer. It will likely take place at a favorite fishing spot somewhere on the Missouri River.

Arrangements are under the care of Creel Funeral Home. John's family and friends can share memories and condolences at www.creelfuneralhome.com
