Mary Teresa Lopez Obituary

Mary Teresa Lopez, at the age of 78, passed away on June 10, 2024. She was born to parents Alvino and Mary Lopez on April 19, 1946, in Houston, Texas. Although she is no longer here on this earth in human form the love and memories will continue to live on within all those whose lives she touched.

Mary was a very highly independent woman who never allowed life challenges to stop her from doing what she knew she needed to do. She worked hard her whole life until she retired at age 70. She loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for the family and anyone else who was around and was lucky enough to get a plate. Cooking food was definitely one of her love languages. There was no other place to eat if you knew Maruca was in the kitchen.

Another love language Maruca had was dancing. She very rarely turned down an invitation to put on makeup, get her nails done, have her hair looking like she just came out of a salon, putting on her new outfit and smelling so good with whatever perfume went with her mood that day. The only question she ever asked was, what time are you picking me up? One thing for sure, from dancing in the house, at a party or just when music was playing outside during family gatherings, Maruca literally left her foot prints. Everyone at some point received a dancing lesson from the disco queen herself. Now you might have woken up the next day sore unable to walk because she might have laughed at you too hard but all you had to do was come back to see her and she would fix you right up for next time.

She became a proud church member of Torre Fuerte in 2016. On this journey in her life, she embraced every church member as her newly found family. The word of the gospel gave her wisdom, peace, and true fulfilment within herself. Her voice still echoes as she reminded us, Never forget you can do anything through Jesus Christ. Her prayers to family or friends was always followed by extra protection because you were bathed in the blood of Jesus.

Maruca is predeceased by her parents, two sisters and brother. She is survived by her (4) four children, Victoria Rodriguez, Abraham Jasso, Elousie Rivera and Marisa Lopez and (2) two sisters Carmen Chapa and Virgina Lara. She also had 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. There are notably a few nieces and nephews who she held dear to her heart as well.

We sincerely thank our family, extended family relatives, friends and well wishers who sympathized with us and joined us here today. Your attendance, words of assurance and most importantly prayers were great comfort in this difficult time as we say good bye to our beloved Mary.

It’s not a forever goodbye, it’s see you on the other side. Aqui todo sigue igual como cuando estabas tu……nuestra Jefa de Jefas Maruca.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 at 10:00 am at Lindale Church 503 Reid St Houston, TX 77022.
