Gwen Lee Ernest Obituary

Gwen Lee Gronborg Ernest, 61, went home to live in pure love and peace with the Lord on Sunday, June 9, 2024, in Winston-Salem, NC. Although she had not lived in Winston-Salem long, she built a wonderful community here who were precious to her and made her feel so loved.

Gwen was born to Dorothy Mae Craven and Georg Gronborg on August 6, 1962, in Meadville, PA. After growing up in Jamestown, NY, she set out on a journey south which eventually led her to Florida and to her husband, David.

Gwen moved often throughout her life and was blessed with many loving communities, including in Florida, the Carolinas, Virginia, and New York. She had a talent for bringing people together and building lasting relationships.

Gwen will be remembered for her hard work, positive attitude, and caregiving nature. She was passionate about the environment and tending her garden—which overflows with food, flowers, and wildlife—as well as caring for her children and grandchildren.

Gwen is reunited in death with the love of her life, David. She leaves behind three loving daughters: Katherine Lee Galligan and husband Ryan; MacKenzie Ernest Cassetta and husband Bryan; and Elizabeth Drew Ernest. She was known as “Gigi” to her five beloved grandchildren: Ava Brynnan, Bailey Ryan, Tyler David, Hannah Lee, and Brooklynn Noelle. She also leaves behind siblings and many other precious family members and loved ones who she considered family.

Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Home Moravian Church, 529 S Church Street, Winston-Salem, NC, followed by visitation with family and friends. She will be laid to rest privately at White Oak ARP Church.

If you would like to send a memorial, please send flowers directly to the graveside at White Oak ARP Church, 284 Patrick Road, White Oak, SC, 29180 or consider having a tree planted in her honor through the Arbor Day Foundation.
