Harold D. Dutton Obituary

Harold David Dutton, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

Portville-Harold David Dutton, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, June 7, 2024 at Wellsville Manor after a long-term illness of dementia.

Harold was born August 13, 1941 to the late Harold Augusta Dutton and Blanche Mildred ‘Suki’ Williams in Penn Yan, NY where his father was a construction worker on the pipeline.

Harold attended the Allegany School system, now called Allegany-Limestone Central School. Harold, the oldest of a four-sibling family was raised primarily by his mother after his parents separated. He inherited his mother’s beautiful left-handed penmanship, along with her strong will, spunk and ambitious work ethics. Harold applied these traits to himself personally. His entire lifetime working career was spent alongside his mother and brother, Robert, as coworkers while employed at American Olean Tile, retiring in 2003.

On August 11, 1962, in Ischua, NY he married the former Dianne P. (Morgan) Crawford. Together they raised four children.

Later in life, in Portville, NY, he married Dolores E. Seamon who predeceased him in 1997.

As an avid outdoor sportsman, Harold was a member of the Olean Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting and competed in shooting events, of which he won several. He would forgo some competitions for the sake of allowing others a chance to win, he was that good. He took great pride in reloading his own ammunition, enjoyed target shooting, taught his children and grandchildren how to shoot and designed his own shooting range on the hillside behind his home.

Harold held many passions and tried hard to enjoy his life as he lived it. He was a part-time farmer which included his horses, raised purebred German Shepherd canines for the NY State Police as well as the United States Air Force. He took up golfing, photography, loved his fast cars, motorcycles and other ATV’s, and his John Deere Tractor. He took great pride landscaping his estate in Portville especially in his retirement. All his life he was a pronounced thrill seeker.

Harold is survived by his four children; Gail (Bridget) Hamilton of Grand Island, NY; Wayne (Wilma Chesnut) Dutton of Allegany, NY; Michael Dutton of Olean, NY; and Colleen (Frederick) Pace of Duvall, WA. A step-daughter, Cindy Seamon of Olean, NY; 11 grandchildren; Ashley, Jessica, Cory, Christian, Halley, Noah, Jacob, Jaiden, Jocelyn, Scott and Christina; several great-grandchildren; a brother Duane A. (Nina) Dutton of Skiatook, OK; a sister Laura A. Dutton-Snider of Allegany, NY; several nieces and nephews; dear cousins; Rodney Dutton of Portville, NY and Earl Dutton of Hinsdale, NY and lifetime family friends Ken (Judy) Gilliland of Bolivar, NY.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dolores; his parents, Harold and Blanche; a brother, Robert E. Dutton; a nephew, Jason Snider; a long-time childhood friend, Earl F. Dutton and a brother-in-law, Ralph Snider.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, (June 20, 2024) at Guenther Funeral Home, Inc. 1303 East State St., Olean, NY 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 3p.m. in the funeral home, with Fran Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Five Mile Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
