Gertrude “Trudy” (Smith) Ellis, 95, of Nashua, died Saturday, June 9, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack. Trudy was born August 2, 1928, in Rome, New York, to the late Elwin and Martha (Abbuhl) Smith. She attended the Rome Free Academy and graduated in 1946. After school, she met the late Bennett Franklin Ellis at Rome Cable Company, and they wed on October 4, 1952, in Rome, NY. They were happily married until Bennett’s passing on August 2, 2007.


They raised a family in Rome, New York, where Trudy attended the Delta Methodist Church for 70 years. She enjoyed oil painting and writing, especially musings and poems. She also loved 1930’s and 1940’s Big Band music. Besides the Church, Trudy was a member of the Rome Free Academy Class of 1946 alumni group.


She is predeceased by her husband Bennett, both parents and her granddaughter McKelvey Ellis.


She is survived by daughter, Sarah Booth and husband, Antony, of Hollis, NH. Son, Mark Ellis and his wife, Blair, of Altamonte Springs, Florida. Granddaughters, Allison Booth and her partner, Wilson, of Brookline, NH; Caroline Booth of Needham, Mass; Meghan Ellis of Altamonte Springs, Florida. Grandson Doug Ellis, and his wife Lisa, of Longwood, Florida. Great grandchildren Xander, Grady and Bree, as well as several nieces and nephews.


SERVICES: A private Memorial Service for the family will be held later in June 2024 at the DAVIS FUNERAL HOME, One Lock St., Nashua, NH 03064. A private internment will take place at a later date, at the family plot in the Rome, New York Cemetery.
