Shirley Rose Mills Gladson Obituary

Shirley Rose Mills Gladson passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024, at her home in Greenville.


Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 2:00 PM in First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 6 to 8 PM in Wilkerson Funeral Home.


Shirley, daughter of the late Elijah and Mamie Ruth Cox Mills, was a Pitt County native who lived her early life in the Black Jack community and was a graduate of Chicod School. She was employed at Burroughs–Wellcome in Quality Control, and as a Telephone Systems Administrator, before she retired in 1994 with 24 years of service. Shirley was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. 


Shirley had a great love for her family and enjoyed cooking. She will be remembered as an excellent cook who enjoyed gathering and preparing meals for family and friends.


Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, David Gladson, Sr.; brothers, Harold, Clarence, Hughie, Jasper, Ervin, and Van Mills; sisters, Lou Ellen Wilson of Greenville, Edna Earle Adams of Greenville, and Mildred Joyce Dixon of Black Jack.


She is survived by her: son, David Gladson, Jr. and wife, Patricia of Greenville; daughters, Pamela G. Gurganus and husband, Robbie of Greenville, Sheryl G. Scott and husband, Steve of Belvoir; and seven grandchildren, Melissa Combs and husband, Jason, Jeremy Gladson, Jonathan Ross, Sarah Smith and husband, Christopher, Jordan Scott and wife, Brooke, Mark Scott and wife, Kerri, and Hunter Scott and wife, Kristen; step-granddaughter, Ashley Clayton and husband, Adam;

ten great-grandchildren, Katelyn Ross, Hartley Combs, Haven Combs, Emmaline Smith, Annabeth Smith, Eli Scott, Charlie Scott, Parker Scott, Lyndon Scott, and Emory Clayton; and her beloved companion, her dog, Gracie.


The family would like to extend special thanks to 3HC Hospice in Greenville, and her home care givers, Miriam Barnes-Williams, Clara Jenkins, and Tina Singleton for their excellent care.
