Ginger Harris Dillon Obituary

Ginger Harris Dillon, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024. She was born March 24, 1979, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Larry Gene Harris and Mildred Eloise Blankenship Setliff.


In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ed and Pat Ferguson.


Ginger was of the Methodist faith. She was a 1997 graduate of Fieldale-Collinsville High School. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ferrum College in 2005 and her Master’s of Arts in Elementary Reading from Nova Southeastern University in 2010. Ginger was known and beloved for her loving, compassionate, helpful, and forgiving nature. She dearly and deeply loved her husband Greg of 27 years, her family, and her friends, and she never met a stranger. Ginger also loved the opportunity to serve her community as a teacher. For 19 years, she taught in the Franklin County Public Schools and endeavored to leave a life-changing, positive impact upon each student in her class. Ginger loved and nurtured every student she encountered. Her other passions included crafting, cooking, and taking care of animals. She volunteered with animal rescue efforts and with animal rescue transport. One of the highlights each year for Ginger was Christmas as evidenced by her putting up 15 Christmas trees, each with its own theme. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.


She is survived by her husband, Gregory Todd Dillon; children of Snow Creek Elementary; sisters, Melissa Miller, Anna Miller and Jennie Young (Joshua); father and mother-in-law, Royce and Yvonne Dillon; nieces, Deanna Heaton, Suzanna Paquette, Amber Cassell, Alicia Cassell; nephew, Trae Hooker; great niece, Lilyanna Pettit; great nephews Bentley Spencer and RD Heaton; dogs, Jake, Echo, and Jo Jo; cat, Luna; reptiles, Oscar, Leppy, Cammy and Ziggy.


The memorial service will be Friday, March 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
