Bishop David Moss, Jr. was born in Wheeler County, Georgia, to Bishop David Moss, Sr., and Pauline Parks Moss on Wednesday, March 24, 1948. Bishop Moss was the son and grandson of “share cropping” farmers from South Georgia. His father was a Deacon in the Church of God, and his mother was a high school English teacher and musician. It was his grandmother that passed on firsthand who God is, and his great love for us.

Bishop attended Oconee High School in Dublin, Georgia, where he was a member of the Honor Society, Vice President of the senior class, and a member of the ROTC Rifle Team. After graduating in 1966, he attended Wilberforce University in Ohio. While being a full-time student, Bishop served as Captain of the University Fire Department and served as Assistant Chief EMS for the Wilberforce and Central State University Fire department. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity, Inc. Bishop graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology.

After graduating, he married Sandra Toomer of Bay Shore, Long Island, New York, and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage. They raised three children, Brian Charles Moss, Myra Janise Moss, and Eric Webster Moss.

His service to the church started at an early age. Bishop, lovingly called “Beau”, was a member of the youth group, a youth choir member, and Sunday school teacher at the Wabash Street Church of God. Years later he served at the Martin Street Church of God, in Atlanta, Georgia, as a senior adult Sunday school teacher and church trustee.

His leadership roles extend over three decades in Church of God congregations in Indiana, Connecticut, and Georgia. Brother Moss served as Treasurer for the local Men’s Ministry where he helped organize service projects for a local homeless men’s shelter. He organized workshops and men’s meetings both statewide and in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania. His favorite men’s fellowship activities were fishing trips, baseball games at Turner Field, and ministry meetings that included barbecuing pigs.

At the state level, Beau was elected to serve on the Board of Directors and Treasurer for the Georgia General Assembly of the Church of God and the Georgia Assembly of the Church of God. He organized and participated in state campground cleanup projects and building maintenance projects. He was one of the principal project team members for the construction and financing of the James L. Brown, Sr. dormitory project in Wadley, Georgia.

His Business Career began as a Management Buyer Trainee in the Special Products Division of the National Cash Register Company (NCR) in Dayton, Ohio. This assignment transitioned, where he took on the role of a Time Study and Methods Analyst in the manufacturing sector of NCR.

In time Bishop, chose to develop a career in the Insurance Industry participating in the Property and Casualty Division, Loss Prevention and Engineering Departments. He specialized in loss control, safety, and risk management skills to prevent accidental loss. During his 30-year career, he held positions in department management, Senior Consulting, advancing to District and Regional management assignments. He retired as a Certified Safety Professional from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals holding a Professional Membership in the American Society of Safety Professionals.
