Joseph Robert Mulligan, 88, of Sayreville, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Born in Perth Amboy to the late Francis and Anna Mulligan, Joseph grew up in Perth Amboy before settling in Sayreville with his late wife, Guiliana, where they started a family and raised their sons. Joseph’s life was marked by dedication, service, and a quiet strength that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.


Joseph proudly served in the Army during peacetime, embodying a sense of duty and commitment to his country. Following his military service, he graduated from Rutgers University and embarked on a career as an auditor for American Can Co., where his meticulous attention to detail and unwavering integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and peers. Joseph dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his work, retiring in 1989 after decades of service. In addition to his professional achievements, Joseph cherished his role as a loving husband and devoted father.


Joseph is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Guiliana Mulligan, his parents Francis and Anna Mulligan, and his siblings Francis Mulligan, and Mary Ann Ferrara. He leaves behind his children and their spouses, Jeffrey and Jackie Mulligan, Richard and Lori Mulligan, his grandchildren, Danielle and her boyfriend Rich Bakerowski, Daniel and his partner Keven Larmond, Amanda and her boyfriend Casey Virgillo, Katie Rose and her fiancé Justin Keel, and his great grandson Kaiden.


Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 15, 2024, 11:15 am from the Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, 15 Cherry Lane, Parlin with a 12:15pm Mass at Our Lady of Victories R.C. Church. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4pm until 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joseph’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
