Patrick McDonald Jr. (6/16/1941 - 6/5/2024)


Patrick James McDonald Jr. of Sparta, age 82, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 peacefully at his home.  Patrick was the son of Patrick and Julia (Jenkins) McDonald born on June 16, 1941 in Grand Rapids. He graduated from Rogers High School in Wyoming where he participated in football and track.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1961 and proudly served four years at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. After returning to Michigan from military service he worked 37 years for the Kent County Road Commision.  


In 1961 he married Linda Lou Gallup from Muskegon, Michigan and they remained together for 58 years.  


Patrick was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa who enjoyed golfing, fishing, the outdoors,and woodworking. He was an avid Michigan Wolverine fan. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.


He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Andrew and his wife, Cherin McDonald, Nicolas McDonald and his partner Tammi Osterink; his grandsons, Christoper and Michael McDonald; sisters Georgia (Mark) Summerfeldt and Elizabeth (Robert) Sanford,  sister-in-law Phyllis Cable, nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, two brothers: Lewis McDonald and Curtis Cable, his father, Patrick McDonald, and his mother, Julia DeYoung.  


The family would like to thank Faith Hospice for their care and compassion during Pat’s illness.  


Memorial services for Patrick will be held from 12-3 on July 7th at the American Legion Hall in Kent City, Michigan.  


Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or Kent County Humane Society .
