Phyllis C. Chicoine Obituary

On May 25, 2024, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Phyllis Chapdelaine Chicoine of Falmouth, died peacefully at the age of 92 surrounded in love by her family after a beautiful life lived.

She was married to her late husband Edward Chicoine for 44 years. Phyllis was born in Barton, Vermont to the late Wilfrid and Ruth Chapdelaine. She was a graduate of Barton Academy and Lyndon State Teachers College in Lyndonville Vermont. Phyllis’s teaching career spanned over 40 years with her teaching both elementary and middle school. She was most proud of her student’s accomplishments and teaching 5th grade at Falmouth’s Morse Pond School. Ahead of her time, she advocated for the environment and often recalled time spent with her students at the National Seashore studying nature, especially birds, and ways to protect them.

The center of Phyllis’s life was her family and her faith. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, prayers and love in abundance. We were all blessed by her goodness, caring, kind heart and generosity. She was an active parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Woods Hole and in her most recent years St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Falmouth. Phyllis was an active supporter and participant in her children’s and later grand children’s lives attending countless events while braving the elements at Falmouth Athletic Fields and at the Falmouth Ice Arena. Phyllis was a passionate golfer and long-time member of the Woods Hole Golf Club where she enjoyed lifelong friendships and gave the gift of golf to her children. She played golf well into her mid-eighties and stayed active in the club as a social member.

Phyllis is survived by her four children, Mark Chicoine and his wife Kathy of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Shawn Chicoine and his wife Ann of Falmouth, Anne Marie Brayton and her husband Kevin of Waterville Valley, New Hampshire and Scott Chicoine and his wife Kerry of Falmouth. Phyllis leaves eight grandchildren; grandson’s Patrick Chicoine, Chris Chicoine, Tommy Chicoine, Eric Chicoine, Kenny Chicoine, Hunter Brayton and granddaughter’s Meggie Quinn Curran and her husband Tucker, Summer Brayton and a great granddaughter Daisy Quinn Curran.

Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Falmouth Rescue and the staff at Falmouth Hospital for their compassionate and skilled care. A wake and funeral mass will be held in mid-September. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis’s honor may be made to the National Audubon Society.

Services will take place this fall and be announced in August.
