Terry Kangas Obituary

Terry Wesley Kangas, age 76, of Bryant, SD, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in DeSmet, South Dakota. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church outside of Lake Norden, SD.

Visitation will be on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be at Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Norden. Active pallbearers will be David Wilson, Tim Devitt, Chad Devitt, Jon Devitt, Leonard Kopman, and Leon Johnson.  Honorary pallbearer will be Lisa Wilson.

Terry was born on July 14, 1947, in Watertown, South Dakota to Wesley and Odella (Thue) Kangas. He graduated from Hayti High School and graduated from South Dakota State University in 1970 with a degree in Agricultural Business. After graduation Terry was employed at the Security Bank of Webster, SD as the Manager of the Ag Loan Department and later was Executive Vice President. He was a member of the Webster Jaycees and served on various boards. 

In 1981 he left the bank to farm with his brother Alfred after their father retired. He was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, Lake Norden.  Terry enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother, Al.  He was a loyal brother.

Terry is survived by his two sisters, Linda (Joe) Devitt of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Susan Wilson of Woodbury, Minnesota, his four nephews, David (Jessica) Wilson, Tim (Sue) Devitt, Chad (Jennifer) Devitt, and Jon (Robyn) Devitt, and one niece, Lisa Wilson. 

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Odella, his brother, Alfred, and one brother-in-law, James Wilson.
