Effie Leger Speyrer Obituary

CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Effie Leger Speyrer, age 104, who passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024 at her residence in Terrytown.


Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Christopher Cambre, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.


Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Amazing Grace, On Eagle's Wings, Psalm 23, One Bread, One Body, and Prayer of St. Francis.


Effie Leger Speyrer was born on February 16, 1920 to the late Olide Leger and Angelle Hebert Leger. She was a native and lifelong resident of Carencro and was a current resident of Terrytown for the last eight years. A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro having been a member of the St. Anne Society.


Survivors include one stepson, Cyril Speyrer of Houston, TX; one stepdaughter, Gail Dunnavant and her husband, Billy, of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Stacy Ann Welch of Terrytown, and Andy Anderson and his wife, Tina, of Marrero; one step granddaughter, Melissa Moore; one great grandchild, Heidi Katherine Welch; six step great grandchildren, Ashley Welch, Katy Welch, Marissa Martinez, Blaine Moore, Ashley Moore, and Amber Moore; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her first husband, Shirley Roger; her second husband, Frank Speyrer; her daughter, Belver Jane Roger Anderson; her parents, Olide Leger and the former Angelle Hebert; one brother, Anatol Leger; and six sisters, Rose Guidry, Rena Breaux, Avia Breaux, Rita Guilbeau, Rosita Leger and Lucille Royer.


A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
