Preston Schoolcraft Obituary

Preston Schoolcraft, 72, of Orrville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 8, 2024, near the Sportsman's Club in Cadiz, OH, following a sudden illness.


He was born on December 3, 1951, in Calhoun County, West Virginia, the son of Melvin and Myrtle (Marks) Schoolcraft, and graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1971. Preston dedicated over 45 years to the trucking industry, previously owning and operating Schoolcraft Trucking, and most recently working the last 20 years as a truck driver for Berner Trucking Inc.


Preston was an active member of several clubs and organizations, including the Hopedale Sportsman's Club, Holmesville Conservation Club, Bear Fork Hunting Club, Eagles Club in Millersburg, VFW Post 3446 of Orrville, National Rifle Association, and National Wildlife Turkey Federation.  He found great joy in the outdoors, spending his time hunting and fishing, riding four-wheelers and motorcycles, and tending to his farm in West Virginia. Above all, Preston cherished moments spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.


Preston’s presence, his love for the outdoors, and his dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed.


Surviving are two daughters, Stephanie (Thomas) Shields of Orrville, and Lori Voltz-Specht of Apple Creek; three grandchildren, Mallori (Sashua) Townsend of Massillon, Brent Shields of Orrville, and Conner Shields of Jeromesville; four great grandchildren, Latron, Saraya, Samara, and Kaylee; three siblings, Judy (Lyle) Hartshorn of Mineral Wells, WV, Dwayne Boothe of Parkersburg, WV, and Ava Riddle of Claremont, NC; his right hand man, Roger Troy Voltz; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by father, Melvin Schoolcraft; a son, Bobby; three grandchildren, Bryan, Brandon, and Cory; brother, James Robert Boothe; and soul-mate, Judith Rose Ella McGraner.


Friends may call on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.


Services will be follow at Noon on Saturday, at the funeral home, with Jackie Elkins officiating. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
