James P. Switzer Obituary

James P. “Jim” Switzer, 69, of Mifflintown passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at UPMC West Shore.


Jim was born April 14, 1955, in Lewistown, PA to the late S. Carl and Martha Jane (Powell) Switzer. On May 7, 1983, he married Lindy (Baer) Switzer, his surviving wife.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Chelsie Poff and her husband, Dustin. As well as his sisters, Sally Switzer and Brenda Switzer, granddaughters Layla and Lily. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Baer.


He was a 1973 graduate of Juniata High School. In earlier life Jim worked for Iceland Seafood and H&N Landscaping. Later working for Penn Dot as a snowplow operator and doing roadwork.


Jim was a member of the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post # 5863 of Mifflintown, the Enola Sportsman’s Club, Mechanicsburg Men’s Club, as well as the American Legion Post 298 of Mifflintown. He enjoyed wildlife, watching NASCAR races, going on family vacations, visiting with friends and former co-workers. He also found pleasure in watching westerns on Grit and TV Land at his sister, Sally’s house and watching football. Jim especially liked to spend time at his campsite by the river and his uncle Rich's hunting cabin in Perry County.


Services will be private and held at the family’s convenience. A closed casket visitation will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, PA 17059. Entombment will be at Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill, PA.
