Matthew Wing Wilcox Obituary

Matthew Wing Wilcox, age 49, of Wayzata, Minnesota, died peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024, in Regions Hospital, St. Paul, Minnesota, of complications from a stroke.

Matt was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on June 4, 1974. He graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in Madison and attended the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. A summer studying in Nantes, France was one of the highlights of his life. After he concluded his studies, he first worked in the wine business and then went into the financial and investment business. He was a member of the Wayzata Community Church where he served as a deacon.

Matt was a dedicated father to his son, Devin. He especially loved going to Hawaii, scuba diving with Devin, and teaching Devin the finer points of cooking.

As one friend put it, Matt was a connoisseur of life. He would light up the room.  He enjoyed traveling, cooking,  sailing and boating on Lake Minnetonka, hunting, and getting together with friends and family. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and attended many games at Lambeau Field.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Diane D. Wilcox. Matt is survived by his son, Devin Wing Wilcox, his father, Michael W. Wilcox (friend Marcia A. Rauch), of Madison, his brother, Timothy D. Wilcox (friend Audra Magermans), of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and his sister, Katherine W. (Brent) Rhode of Frankfort, Illinois. He is also survived by his nieces and nephew, Mackenzie Rhode, Nora Rajchel-Wilcox and Mason Rhode, Devin's mother, Tina Marie Heidelberger (friend Greg Nuss), Mahtomedi, Minnesota, his devoted partner, Alison N. Clark, Minneapolis, Minnesota, aunts, uncles and cousins, and many friends.

Matt and his charismatic grin and zest for life will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

A celebration of Matt's life will be held at the Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd, Minnesota, on Friday, June 28, 2024. There will be a visitation at 10 am followed by a service at 11 am. A reception at the church will follow the service.

Memorials may be made to the Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, Minnesota 55391 for the Deacon’s Fund.
