Mary Carolyn Douglas Obituary

Mary Carolyn Douglas went to be with the Lord on Thursday June 6, 2024, surrounded by family. She was 81 years old. Mary was born on November 25, 1942, as the second daughter of Malcom and Mary Gray. Her older sister referred to her as ‘babe’ and the moniker stuck as she was known as Babe to her friends and family ever after. She had a long career at Arkansas Best Corporation where she retired as an Executive Secretary. For many years she was the Church Secretary for Trinity Baptist Church, church pianist, Sunday School Teacher and event planner for church and family special occasions and events. Her many talents as an artist also included: painting, quilting, decorating and she was a Master Gardener. However, her best talent was to lend a kind ear, offer words of encouragement and support, and to show her love to all those she encountered.

Babe was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, and her sister, Ann Byars. She is survived by daughter Nanci Nikstad and husband Gene, son John and wife Cheryl, two sisters Francie Douglas and Debbie Ray, and one brother Buddy Gray. Babe has six grandkids: Austin and Erik Nikstad and wife Heidi, Anna (Nikstad) O’Shea and husband Chris, and Ian, Mason, and Pierce Douglas. She was also blessed with six great-grandkids; Cash, Lane, Hudson, Sawyer, Hendrix and Waylon.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the caregivers that assisted Babe over the past few years, as you have become part of our extended family. Mom loved you all and appreciated the care you provided.

Our mom was devoted to her children and family and left a legacy of art and love. We will miss her greatly, but we celebrate knowing that she is at peace and with our Heavenly Father.

Please join us for a celebration of Babe’s life which will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, Alma Arkansas on Friday, June 28th visitation at 10:30 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Trinity Baptist Church or www.parkinsons.org
