Pat Morley Obituary

Pat Morley, age 86, of Rogersville went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at her home surrounded by her daughter, Tricia &  her granddaughter, Natalie. She was born on October 29, 1937 to the Reverend E.B. and Mauveline Jeffers. Pat grew up in Johnson City in the church parsonage.  She fondly remembered roller skating in the church’s fellowship hall.

Pat was a graduate of Science Hill High school and attended ETSU for a short time, where she was involved in the music program that  the college offered-the women’s chorale, and the a cappella choir.  Music was a part of Pat’s life from an early age. She began taking piano lessons at the age of 4; by the time she was 11, she was the pianist at the church where her father was the minister.  There was a joke that it was a family affair. Pat was the pianist; her mother, the organist; her brother, the choir director; and her dad, the minister. At age 11, she started taking organ lessons from an organist trained at the New York Conservatory of Music. Although piano was her passion, she took to the organ very quickly.  Pat played the organ or piano in church for most of her life. Her love for music was passed down to her son, Mark and grandsons, Justin (Leigh) and Michael (Emily)  who are very active in the Worship Team at Hope Community Church were Pat has been a member for the last 16 years. She also played the organ for funerals at Mayes Mortuary for many years.

She was an amazing seamstress, making a lot of her clothes and many of her daughter’s Halloween costumes.  She made plenty of Halloween costumes for her granddaughter Natalie, a favorite being “Elsa” from Frozen.  After her husband passed away, she made t-shirt memory quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Reverend E.B and Mauveline Jeffers; two sisters, Elaine Rose and Betty Jo Mahoney; and her husband of 57 years, John Morley.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Mark (Lori) Morley; daughter, Tricia Gray; grandchildren, Justin (Leigh) Morley, Michael (Emily) Morley, Natalie Gray; and great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Baker, Harvest, Ivy Ruth, and Eden Morley; brother, Lendell (Peggy) Jeffers; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Pat had requested that donations may be sent to Camp Hope of East, TN.

Per Pat's request a Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday June 11, 2024 at Highland Cemetery. If you wish to attend, please meet at the cemetery by 1:45pm. Pallbearers are grandsons, Justin Morley and Michael Morley; nephews, Len Jeffers, Ralph Jeffers, Brian Mahoney; and close family friend, Ashton Lowery.

Also, the family will receive friends  from 5:00-6:00 pm Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Hope Community Church. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Chris Bishop officiating. Michael Morley, grandson will provide a selection of music, including “It Is Well With My Soul” and “How Great Thou Art“ with “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” to be performed by daughter, Tricia Gray and granddaughters, Natalie Gray, Emily Morley, and Leigh Morley.
