Karen Ann Chin Obituary

With great sorrow we announce the passing of Karen Ann Chin, into the open arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus, at a too-young age of 61 years.

She left us, going on ahead to her eternal reward, on Saturday June 8th.

Karen (usually called "K") is finally relieved from her long suffering with cancer.

Left behind are her beloved husband David Miller, her two cherished (step)daughters Jennifer (Andrew) and Emily (Jan), her wonderful mother Elaine and two endeared brothers Colin (Karen) and Derek. And many, many life-long friends (especially Dianne, Sandii, Judy and Richard), nieces and nephews.

K was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She completed her schooling in both Jamaica and the USA, ultimately graduating with a degree in Hotel Management, at which time she began her 30+ year career with Sandals. After 20-some years as Executive Assistant at head office, Karen moved to Canada to look after her mother. She was head of Human Resources (Canada) for Sandals in Toronto.

On September 2, 2016, K married her fiancée David, at her church in Brampton. They started their lives together in David's home in Oshawa. And so began a wonderful happy relationship. Each was warmly welcomed into the other's family. They enjoyed many trips - Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada, St. Lucia, Mexico, Banff, Vancouver and a Caribbean cruise, as well as the Miller family cottage.

K was meticulous and attained a high degree of excellence throughout her business career. She was fully committed in her personal life, as attested by the number of her friends and the duration of their friendships. Her family was so very valuable and important to her; K was their sounding board and confidant.

But most important to K was her deep relationship with the Lord Jesus. Despite her illness, she never questioned why she was so afflicted. She knew that "His grace was sufficient unto her". Her concerns were the effects on her husband, family and friends both during her illness and after her passing.

Such a remarkable woman.

Special thanks to her oncologist, Dr. Raskin (William Osler Center) who, by trying an unorthodox treatment, was able to extend her life by 2½ years (most of which were happy!). Also thanks to the palliative staff there.

And much thanks to K's PSW Juli, who tenderly cared for her, for 2 years.

Further thanks to the Oak Ridges Hospice, for making her final days comfortable.

Any flowers should be delivered on the morning of June 29th.

If desired, donations can be made to the Oak Ridges Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Visitation at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Rd. N Whitby on Saturday June 29th from 1:00 pm until time of service in the Barnes Chapel at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Groveside Cemetery.
