Jeannette Marguerite Jones Obituary

Jeannette M. Jones died on June 8, 2024 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, NC. She was 102 years old. Mrs. Jones was the widow of the late Charles C. Jones, 1st Sgt. Ret.

The eldest of four, Mrs. Jones was born to John and Marguerite Johns McNally on October 29, 1921 in Tacoma, WA. As a military spouse, she would go on to live in Japan and Germany, as well as much of the United States. Due to her extensive travels, Mrs. Jones made lifelong friends, many of whom she hosted in her home. Later in life, she worked at DePaul School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA as a Resident Director, where many of the students still remember her fondly.

Mrs. Jones will be remembered for her positive outlook and generosity. She befriended nearly anyone she encountered: cashiers, beauticians, home health aides, you name it; they all loved her. As did her family, which at 102 years old, had grown quite large.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her three children, Michael Rossow (Dianne) of Centralia, WA, and John Rossow (Alla) and Jennifer White (David) of Elizabeth City; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; thirteen step great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Jones experienced no greater joy than when spending time with each and every one of them; they were her source of pride. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her siblings, Beverly McNally Evenson, Earl McNally, and George McNally.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Minister Kevin Reiver officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following the service at the funeral home. A private inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Jones’ service will be live streamed. Visit her obituary page at www.TwifordFH.com to view the live stream at the time of service.
