William Raymond Szumiloski

Schenectady - William Raymond Szumiloski of Schenectady, NY passed away at home on June 8, 2024, a week short of his 87th birthday.

William “Bill” was born in Schenectady, NY on June 15, 1937. He was the son of the late Raymond and Genevieve Szumiloski and was a lifelong resident of Schenectady.

Bill was a graduate of the class of 1955 from Mont Pleasant High School.

Bill was married to Michelle Suzanne Plantier, his wife, in 1969. He met Michelle through the Third Order Carmelites. Bill was professed as a Third Order Member and served as Prior of the Chapter for several years.

Bill’s life was about serving others. He was a core member of the St Paul Spirit of Love Charismatic Prayer Group for several years. His joy was to help and pray with people.

Bill was a Labor Relations Specialist for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and had a history of 42 years of state service.

Bill’s life was centered on his faith and his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Michelle; three children, Charissa Mayer, James Szumiloski, and Christina (Michael) Longo; and his sister, Karla Tribley. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Coral Szumiloski, Kayla Forkel, Mariah Forkel, James Szumiloski, Andrea Szumiloski, Nadia Ashman, Caleb Mayer, and Nathan Mayer. He also leaves behind four great grandchildren, Savannah Benson, Sadie Benson, Audrey Szumiloski, and Nathan Forkel.

Bill’s family extends loving gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses of Albany Medical Center, Bill’s Prayer Group members, and many friends and family members who prayed and supported him in his final days.

There are no calling hours at the request of his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Wednesday, June 12th at 10:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany St, Schenectady. Bill will be laid to rest immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Rotterdam, NY.
