Ina Mae Stapleton Obituary

Ina Mae Byrd Stapleton, age 80, peacefully went to be with her Lord on June 7, 2024, while at home with family. Ina was born on December 26, 1943, in Rogersville, Tennessee to J.D. Byrd and Nola Ruth (Davis) Byrd.

Ina graduated from Rogersville High School in 1962. Her marriage to John Stapleton on June 19, 1964, began a loving and devoted partnership that lasted sixty years. Their first years of marriage were spent in Merced, California while John served in the military at Castle Air Force Base. Ina retired from her role as a teaching assistant at the Rogersville City School after enjoying many years devoted to a deep level of care and commitment for every student she worked with. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School together with John in the children’s department at church.

Ina was known as a very special woman who quietly portrayed grace and dignity in full array. She was an active and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Church Hill where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Her favorite role, however, was that of a doting grandma as she loved spending time and sharing her love of all things outdoors with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, an excellent cook, and enjoyed sharing her husband’s love of antique cars and car shows.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Emily Denise Stapleton, and sister, Katherine Johnson.

Ina is survived by her husband, John P. Stapleton; daughter, Robin (George) Floyd of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Ali Floyd of Charlotte and John Floyd of Raleigh; brothers Lewis (Faye) Byrd and Howard Byrd; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 14, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Church Hill, TN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with  Pastor Dustin Jessee and Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Highland Cemetery in Rogersville. Pallbearers will be John Floyd, Tom Henard, Tim Morgan, David Myers, Lynn Parker and Mike Redman. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.christiansells.com.
