Curtis Warren Clayton Obituary

Curtis Warren Clayton of Hillsborough, North Carolina, passed away on June 8, 2024 after suffering from a stroke. Curtis was the son of Ralph and Elizabeth Wilkerson Clayton and was 92 years old. Curtis graduated from Hurdle Mills High School and was drafted in the Army where he served for 13 months in the Korean War. Curtis retired from UNC Hospitals where he worked in the Facilities department. He was a charter member of Lawrence Road Baptist Church in Hillsborough where he served faithfully for 50 years.


Curtis is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Hawkins Clayton, his daughter, Debby Clayton Rose of Mebane and his son Curtis Michael (Mike) Clayton of Rougemont. Surviving grandchildren are Dennis Logan (Melissa) of Burlington and Danny Logan (fiancé Jennifer Smothers) of Mebane, Mallory Clayton and Laura Clayton of Graham and great grandchildren Tanner Logan and Kendall Logan of Mebane. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Clayton of Cedar Grove. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Clayton and brother, Larry Clayton.


Curtis was an avid UNC Tarheel fan, loved to garden, and loved playing dartball with his church team.


A celebration of life will be held at Lawrence Road Baptist Church, 1901 Lawrence Road, Hillsborough, NC on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:45 pm prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Berry’s Grove Baptist Church in Timberlake, NC.


Pallbearers will be Dennis Logan, Danny Logan, Tanner Logan, Daryl Clayton, David Davis and David McBroom.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence Road Baptist Church, 1901 Lawrence Road, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
