Barbara Swint Obituary

Barbara Jean (Dukes) Swint, born February 4, 1945 to Howard and Maxine (Brown) Dukes.

Barbara was the tenth child, first daughter in a family of thirteen kids, nine who survived to become adults. Barbara grew up with six brothers and two sisters in a home filled with laughter and love. After being introduced by her brother to a young man from Grand Ledge, she fell in love. She later married the love of her life, William (Bill) Henry Swint. They married on July 31st, 1960.

They welcomed three children, Jeffrey (Jeff), Laurie, and Valerie (Val) into their family. Their families grew with the marriages of their children to Carol (Heisler) Swint, Michael Raines, and Jerry Holley. With their unofficial “fourth child,” Dennis (Denny) Tice and his sweet wife, Miss Vicki.

Barbara and Bill were elated when they graduated to “Grandma” and “Papa,” welcoming their amazing grandchildren, Jeremy Holley, Jeffrey Swint Jr., Leila Swint, Matt Holley, Amber (Nick) Redman, Jessica Swint, and Melani Raines.

Through the years, The Swint family continued to grow, rolling out the red carpet for their most precious great-grandchildren, Alexia, Sofia, Olivia, Madelynn, Lucas, and Jeriah, who captured “Grandma Weema’s” Heart in every way.

Barbara was a wonderful and beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was also a beloved aunt who cared deeply for all of her precious nieces and nephews.

Barb retired from General Motors - Oldsmobile, after 30 years of loyal service. She found joy outside the family as a Past Madame President of the Michigan Eagles Auxiliary and was very fond of her many Eagles Sisters. In addition to this, she was a former Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, and member of The First United Methodist Church of Grand Ledge.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill “Funny Face” Swint; her parents, Howard and Maxine; her brothers, Neil, Dean, Richard “Dick”, Gerald, Kent, and Terry; her little sisters, Suzanne and Deborah; Sisters-in-law Patty, Judy, and Donna; four baby brothers; as well as, her son-in-law, Jerry.

In celebration of Barbara Swint’s life and love for others, visitation will be on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel from 6:00-8:00 pm with an Eagles Service beginning at 8:00 pm.
