Mary Jane Touchet Romero Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mary Jane Touchet Romero on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM at St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville. Mary was 87 when she entered eternal rest on Friday, June 7, 2024 at her home in Youngsville.


The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location, 600 E. Farrel Rd., Lafayette, LA 70508, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM.


A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home by Deacon Coby Thomas.


Entombment will be in St. Anne Cemetery Mausoleum.

 

Reverend William Schambough, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton, will officiate the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.


Survivors include her son, Randall K. Romero and his wife Denise; her son, Ritchie Romero and his wife Rella; her daughter, Bridget Hulin and her husband Phil; her daughter, Crystal Millet and her husband Steven; her grandchildren, Ashley Romero Bastida, Jason Romero(Brye), Bobbie Dugas(Shane), Brandi Dufour(Colby), Whitney Fruge, Jacob Fruge, Lexie Hulin(Chase Landry), Jaxon Hulin, Brent Hulin(Mariah), Drake Hulin(Heather), Macie Millet and Megan Millet; her great grandchildren, Dominic Bastida, Nolan Bastida, Preslee Romero, Bryer Romero, Hunter Dugas, Falyn Dugas, Harrison Leger, Hailee Fruge, Carter Fruge, Addyson Fruge, Kohen Hebert, Gabriel Hulin, Bella Hulin, Flynn Hulin, Kaysn Hulin, Colt and Whitley Landry; her sisters, Patsy Walters and Gladys Credeur; her sister-in-law, Gail Romero; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband Curley "CJ" Romero; her parents, Harrison and Lilly Mae Romero Touchet; her brothers, Frances and Gerald Touchet; her sisters, Laura Mae Richard, Laura Belle Picard, Anna Belle Benoit, and Lula Mae Vallot.


Mary was a native and lifelong resident of Youngsville. She worked all of her life, beginning with Evangeline Maid Bakery, Melancon's Grocery, and in 1972 became co-owner of Romero's Grocery and Market in Lafayette, until her retirement in 1995. Upon retirement, she devoted her life caring for others, especially her family. Mary loved dancing, listening to music, cooking delicious meals for her family, and caring for her plants, collecting angels, and going to weekly Mass. Her most enjoyable moments were spent with her grandchildren, caring for them and attending their activities. She will be deeply missed and always cherished in our hearts. Rest in peace Maw Maw Mary.


Pallbearers will be Jason Romero, Michael Todd Romero, Shane Dugas, Brent Hulin, Drake Hulin, and Chase Landry.


Honorary Pallbearers will be Jaxon Hulin, Steven Millet, Phil Hulin, Glenn Richard, Karl Wayne Short, and Rickey Allen Romero.


A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Romero family to Dr. Juan J. Perez-Ruiz for many years of care. Also to Mary's sitters, Shirley Venable, Renee Montgomery, and Ann Racca for their wonderful care and loving support.
