James Smith Jr Obituary

James R. Smith Jr. passed away in his sleep to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 2, 2024. James was known by some as J.R., and to his older friends and family members as “Sockey". James was born on December 12, 1935. He was raised in Chillicothe, OH where he met and married the love of his life Iris Lucille Mischal for 54 years. James was a charter member of Reeb-Hosack Community Baptist Church now known as Resurrection Missionary Baptist Church. James held many positions within the church and later becoming a Deacon (Emeritus). He worked 30 plus years as a truck driver and later in management with the United States Postal Service located on Twin Rivers Drive.


James was activity involved in coaching Pee Wee baseball. He attended all our sport activities from baseball, football, track and wrestling. Also, he followed his grandchildren activities as well like basketball, golf and soccer. He had two other hobbies, James enjoyed eating and traveling to eat. James always had a smile and loved to interact with friends and even strangers.


James is preceded in death by his parents James R. Smith Sr., Erma Smith (Jones). His wife, Iris Lucille. His older brother William Marshal Smith (Bill), older sister Marion Castlin and younger sister Erma Jean Smith.


James leaves three sons, James R. Smith III (Pamela) of Columbus, Mark A. Smith (Valerie) of Toledo, Steven L. Smith (Teresa) of Etna, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of cherished friends.
