Barry Gene Ferrell Obituary

Barry Gene Ferrell, age 77, of Elizabeth City, NC, died on November 29, 2023, at home. He was born in Mingo, WV, on February 14, 1946, to the late Lillian Ann Sawicki Ferrell and Quentin Eugene Ferrell. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA. Barry honorably served in the United States Naval Reserves as an aircraft mechanic. Two of his six years were on active duty, stationed in Atsugi, Japan. He was a BMW mechanic at Checkered Flag Lynnhaven, Virginia Beach, VA. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Elizabeth City and a member of the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers. While in the military he earned the National Defense Service Medal. In 2002, he was awarded the 2002 BMW Profiles in Achievement and ACT Aftersales Employee award. He retired early to be a full-time, 24/7 caretaker for his mother. Throughout his life, Barry took much pride in his work as a mechanic, and he was highly interested in and skilled in his hobbies of astronomy and photography.


Barry is survived by his cousins and their families, Barbara Herrala (VA), Judi Ellal (ME), Patricia Oberlin (VA), Elaine Hensley (VA), Diane Baltazar (NY), Jeffrey Wituszynski (NH), Anita Goode (VA), Susan Girardi Johnson (VA), Gerald P. Girardi (VA); and his uncle, Ivan W. (Woody) Ferrell (NC).


Barry's cremated remains will be buried in the Memorial Garden at Holy Family Catholic Church privately at a future time.
