Theresa M. Marrier Obituary

Theresa Fontaine Marrier, 95, of Burlington, Vermont, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024, just four days shy of her 96th birthday.

Born on June 9, 1928, in East Albany, Vermont, Theresa was a dedicated mother, wife, and caregiver. Alongside her devoted husband, John, she balanced working part-time with raising their children. Theresa pursued her passion for nursing by obtaining her nursing degree, receiving top academic honors, while also managing her household responsibilities. She began her career in the delivery room at Fanny Allen Hospital, skillfully combining her nurturing spirit with her professional skills. Theresa later transitioned to supporting patients at Birchwood Nursing Home, from where she retired after a fulfilling career.

In her spare time, Theresa was a resourceful homemaker. She excelled in cooking, baking, and especially in crocheting and knitting, creating countless hats, mittens, and Afghan blankets for her family. These handcrafted items remain cherished tokens of her love and care.

After nearly a lifetime on North Avenue in Burlington and raising five children, Theresa found herself widowed in 1989. Demonstrating remarkable resilience and self-reliance, she spent the next 25 years at Heineberg Senior Housing, rebuilding her life surrounded by a close-knit circle of friends. Theresa cherished traveling, playing bingo, and spending time with her growing family. Her life, though simple, was rich and full.

In 2022, Theresa moved to Barton, Vermont, where she received full-time care from her daughter Linda, son-in-law Ron, grandson Brian, and beloved granddaughter-in-law Sherry through her hospice care.

Theresa was predeceased by her husband John, grandson Eric, grandson Jason, her parents Eugene and Marie Fontaine (Roy), and her brother Norman. She leaves behind her sister Jeannette Thibault; five children: Jacqueline Paquette (husband Kevin, children Christopher), John Jr. (wife Marnie), Linda Marier (husband Ron Bosley, children Brian and Alexander), James (wife Linda, children James Jr, Jeremy, Justin, and Jessica), and Ronald (wife Eileen, children Erik); as well as 9 great-grandchildren, alongside numerous nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Theresa’s life will be held at St. Mark’s Church on June 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The family suggests donations to the Heineberg Community Senior Center in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ready Funeral & Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington, VT. To send online condolences to the family please visit www.readyfuneral.com.
