Doris Mae Biermeier Obituary

Doris Mae Biermeier, age 91 of Wonewoc, Wisconsin, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Elroy Health Services in Elroy, Wisconsin.

She was born on May 31, 1933, on a farm between Elroy and New Lisbon to Howard and Una (Pearsall) Olson. Her early years were spent with her brothers, Glenn and Allen, on the farm of her grandparents, Orin and Mrytle Pearsall, outside of Elroy.  Doris told stories of big gardens, chickens, homemade ice cream and root beer that they capped in bottles and kept in a cool basement.  Her memories included walking 1 ½ miles to and from school in all kinds of weather with her brothers and neighboring kids. She graduated from Elroy High School in 1950.

Doris worked at several different places, including Kreskies in Madison, the headquarters building at Camp McCoy, a canning factory in Hillsboro, the Garment Factory in Mauston, Badger Ordinance in Baraboo, and she spent almost 25 years working for Ray-O-Vac in Wonewoc.  She married David Biermeier on November 21, 1964, and they spent over 50 happy years together.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, David; her father, Howard, who was killed in action during World War II; her mother, Una and her two brothers, Glenn (Zena) Olson and Allen (Elaine) Olson.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Jodeen (Kurt) Meckstroth and her son, Jason Biermeier. Doris had seven grandchildren, Vince (Betsy) Meckstroth, Melissa (Stewart) Whitson, Victor (Lauren) Meckstroth, Mark (Jessica) Meckstroth, Max (Maura) Meckstroth, Brooke (Harry) Asprey, and Drew Biermeier, and she had 13 great grandchildren.

Thank you to Elroy Health Services for caring for Doris over the past several years and to St. Croix Hospice for its assistance.

A visitation will be held in Wonewoc from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Picha Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m., officiated by Father Donald Bauer.  The burial will follow in St. Theresa’s Catholic Cemetery in Union Center.
