Jimmy Donald Smith Sr., age 88, of Surgoinsville, passed away in his sleep peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born into family April 30, 1936 to his parents Powell and Nettie Smith. Jimmy was saved at Bass Chapel at the age of 14. Living for The Lord and being in church when able, was his most important person and thing to do in this life. He was a member of The Way of The Cross Church, but more importantly a member of God's family.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Powell and Nettie Smith; two brothers, Billy and Charles Smith; two sisters, Edna and Ruby; and son, Powell Smith.


He leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Jean Smith; four sons, Jimmy Jr. (Liping), David (Mary Anne), Ralph (Melissa), and Jackie (Renea); 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, and ALL his BROTHERS and SISTERS in Christ he met down through the years.


The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm with Rev. Walter Way, Rev. Ulias Brown, and Rev. Dan Brown officiating and Honorary Rev. Monroe Brown. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am June 10, 2024  in Hawkins County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
