Craig Wallace White, DVM, Lt. Col., US Army, Ret. Obituary

Dr. Lt Co (ret) Craig White

1946 to 2024

Dr. Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Craig White, 77 (New Meadows, ID) passed away at St. Luke's Medical Center in McCall, ID on May 19, 2024.

He was born on September 19, 1946, in Ogden, UT to Elwood Wallace White and Lois Marie Pebley. He graduated from Weber High School, Weber State University and Washington State Medical School as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1974. He married his eternal love, Vicki DeMille White on AUG 19,1994.

The life of Dr Craig White personifies the virtues of honor, commitment, and sacrifice. Craig is a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man served a full-time mission in the Australia Sydney Mission.

Craig’s military service (both active and reserve) began over 55 years ago, taking him around the world to South Korea, Germany, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Iraq. In this military life he found a passion for travel and excitement. Craig’s career in the Army gave him the opportunity to focus on Animal Health & Nutrition and Food Safety for the Armed Forces. He continued his career with the USDA, servicing across the US, ending in the Madison Wisconsin District Office as District Manager. As an Epidemiologist, he was responsible for managing the inspections and safety our nation’s meat, poultry and egg products. Craig retired from the USDA in 2011 and continued humanitarian work in expanding Afghanistan’s Agriculture Infrastructure until 2016.

Craig enjoyed taking his wife and family to exciting and exotic places. Most recently, Craig and his wife took the trip of a lifetime to Alaska. He was a lover of Far Side Comics and was always pulling practical jokes on family and friends.

Everywhere he went, he left a mark of excellence. Craig demonstrated a striking mastery and working knowledge of an array of competencies beyond Life Sciences that includes Bible Doctrine, World History (especially the Civil War and World War II), and Humanities. He had an intangible ability to know exactly what to do in seemingly any scenario. Craig’s advice and wisdom was sought after by friends and family members alike.

Craig was no stranger to adversity. Always choosing to stand for what is right, facing each challenge with the same enduring determination that became his hallmark. His humility stood-out most to those who knew him best. Despite his achievements, Dr White never sought the spotlight; firmly believing that his duty was to serve others. Craig always felt that, in both his professional and church activities, he was fortunate to know and work with some of the finest people in the world.

With a love that knew no bounds, Craig was a dedicated spouse, an inspiring parent, and a loyal successor to an honorable family lineage. His absence in the everyday moments of humor, silent
companionship, and steady guidance is an absence that will be deeply felt. Craig was a remarkable husband, father, doctor, soldier and a steadfast friend.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki DeMille White; their children, spouses, and grandchildren. Joseph and Kymberly White (Robert, Mary, Elliot, John), Steven and Audra White (Alyssa, Cade, Jace, Saffron), Katie White (James, Michael), Risa and Andy Rahn (Seth), Douglas White, Amber and Brian Riggs (Sawyer, Blair, Hunter) and Alexa White and Kevin King (Nolan, Mayson).

Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 with Funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, McCall 2nd Ward, 400 Elo Rd., McCall, ID 83638  Burial with full military honors will follow in the Meadows Valley Cemetery, New Meadows, Idaho at 1:30 p.m.
